Men’s watch – which one suits me?

by Adolf Karl

Which watch best reflects my personality and style?

Classic, elegant, or perhaps sporty and contemporary: In the world of men's watches, you'll find virtually every color, size, material, and design. Whatever you like is allowed – that's the motto for watches, which is why we men value watches as a statement of our style and an essential accessory to our outfits. Even in the age of smartphones, watches don't lose their importance as timepieces. A wristwatch reveals a great deal about the wearer. But which watch suits me? That's a question I get asked often.

1. The classic type: automatic watches

With a metal or leather strap – if you're the classic, elegant type, you probably already own one or two automatic models with a high-quality leather or metal strap. In addition to the external features, the inner qualities are crucial. The mechanical automatic movement, the heart of the watch, is responsible for its precision and power reserve.

Some manufacturers are known and valued for the quality of their calibers; this ultimately determines the value of the watch. Whether it's Swiss precision craftsmanship in the form of the ETA caliber (used in Tissot® models, among others), the Citizen Miyota 8215 (as used in the Bulova Frank Sinatra ), or the Seiko automatic caliber .

As a fan of automatic watches, you can enjoy a wide selection of models – from simple ones in muted colors to more strikingly designed watches, which usually have an eye-catcher built into the dial.

2. The sporty-noble type: pilot watches with steel bracelet

Are you the sporty type, but a certain elegance and fine craftsmanship are a must? Then this category is for you! I recommend the Promaster Sky series from Citizen – radio-controlled watches with environmentally friendly solar power (Citizen's Eco Drive).

Just the right mix of an outdoor watch with all the essential functions and a striking business watch, made of robust stainless steel, or even with an extra-hard and lightweight super-titanium case and bracelet. With their striking design and high level of comfort, these watches from Citizen strike exactly the balance between sport and elegance that is important to you as a sporty, sophisticated type.

3. The fashionable-individual type: watches with an individual touch

If you're more into casual, fashionable statements—which can sometimes be colorful and extravagant—to give your outfit a personal touch, then you'll find what you're looking for in this watch category. You can't get a bigger style statement on your wrist, especially when it comes to color.

Take, for example, the men's and unisex models from Bering®. The "True Aurora" series impresses with bright red, vibrant yellow, and, if that's not enough, a bold purple with a gradient dial. The Max Rene series, with its easy-to-change colorful silicone straps, is also among the absolute top hits.

But it's not just the colors that give the watch that certain fashionable flair; unusual geometry and minimalist design are also a feature, as in the Bering Pebble® series . Here, the boundaries between men's and women's watches are blurred. The watch is a style statement and can therefore be worn by anyone who wants to express their personality.

4. The sporty-casual type: Sporty diving watch with a variety of functions

Are you sporty and active, and casual elegance is important to you for everyday practicality, but you prefer something a little more understated than the robust and eye-catching pilot's watches? Then the sporty yet elegant diving watch category is just right for you.

The absolute classic and must-have in this category is a SEIKO® Diver . First released 55 years ago, it has since become the epitome of the classic, sporty diver's watch. Its slim profile and low center of gravity make it comfortable and smooth to wear, even on a narrow wrist. The special models celebrating the 55th anniversary feature a blue-gray dial, like the originals, and are available with either a stainless steel or a silicone strap. Powered by the 6R35 caliber, the watches offer a 70-hour power reserve.

5. The nostalgic type: Classic watch in vintage style

If you not only love old movies from the 1950s and '60s, but also old watch styles, but want a modern watch underneath, then a model like the Bulova Special Edition "Frank Sinatra" is the watch for you.

Bulova® is dedicating a watch collection to "The Voice." Frank Sinatra was also known for wearing Bulova watches throughout his life. The Bulova® brand honors the singer's passion by designing the new "Frank Sinatra" timepieces in a 1950s and 1960s style and naming them after some of his most popular songs.
