BERING Ocean Pebble Collection 2022
"Time to care – Save the Ocean" – this is the motto of BERING's new Ocean Pebble collection. What makes this new BERING design edition special is that it is made from recycled ocean plastic. Plastic in the ocean is a dramatic problem worldwide. The Danish watch and jewelry brand BERING is taking its responsibility seriously, using waste as a raw material and transforming it into a fashion statement. The straps of the new "Ocean Pebble" watch edition are made from 100 percent recycled ocean plastic, collected and processed by the Swiss company Tide Ocean.
In addition to PET containers, plastic bags, shampoo bottles, and other packaging are processed into fine granules, which BERING uses to make the straps. Like the stainless steel watch case, the plastic strap is extremely durable. Sustainability also plays a role in the design: The minimalist Pebble watches are timeless, wearable with many different looks, and anything but fast fashion.
Like all our creations, the edition is inspired by the beauty of the Arctic.”
Michael Witt Johansen, founder and managing director of BERING
The extravagant shape is the brainchild of the KiBiSi design collective, led by star architect Bjarke Ingels. "Pebble is reminiscent of smoothly polished pebbles found on Nordic beaches," says Witt Johansen. "This watch represents pristine oceans like no other—and is therefore our first model made with recycled plastic."
Maritime colors, durable material
With the new edition, BERING further develops the Pebble design. The extra-flat case is about half the size of previous models. With its rounded edges, the Ocean Pebble also appears even more harmonious. A wave motif on the back and crown reflects the brand's commitment to ocean conservation. The watches are available in three maritime colors reminiscent of the waves, spray, and ice of the Arctic Ocean. The Arctic White model is utterly purist, with its combination of snowy white, black hands, and silver-colored stainless steel. The Ocean Blue model provides a contrasting color scheme, with dark blue from the dial to the clasp—making the gray hands stand out even more. The Ice Blue model is a fresh mix of light and dark: cool blue contrasts with white hands and bright stainless steel. All three color versions are optimally protected against scratches thanks to crystal-clear sapphire crystal, ensuring long-lasting wear.
Committed to environmental protection
BERING founder Michael Witt Johansen has long been fascinated by the nature of the Arctic. "Unfortunately, this part of the world is under acute threat, and not only from climate change," the entrepreneur laments. "Plastic pollution in the oceans is also a major problem. We want to contribute to protecting the Arctic environment." Under the motto "Time to Care," BERING has been committed to nature conservation for many years, including through charity campaigns for the organization Polar Bears International.
